The main debates and European Cultural Policy guidelines recognize the Creative Industries as a potential development in the current situation of economic and financial crisis. In parallel, studies and artistic projects developed in UK rural environments (East Midlands) confirm that the creativity of places not only correspond an urban phenomenon but also rural.
In this context, this research on the observation of the recurrent use of the Creative Industries in the framework of discursive constructions of large urban areas, extending the concept to the rural environment. Then, it becomes relevant to follow an applied empirical and experimental research that shows the extent to which new inputs from various artistic fields (national and international), in Alfândega da Fé, complement the cultural and natural values that already existing there.
Therefore, Creative Industries could be a strategy in which artistic creation would be included in regional development plans of rural environments. In expected results terms, based on the idea of strategic design for sustainability, this research aims to be a narrative that increase rural environments as places with high attractiveness of talent and artists (promoting social and artistic mobility), encouraging the establishment of creative clusters and local networks, checking if they still support the visibility and cultural value.
